VMware Lab Manager 3 goes live today

VMware Lab Manager 3
The latest, long-awaited version of VMware’s Lab Manager went live today, adding some key features that LM admins everywhere will be interested in.

The current 2.5 tree of Lab Manager has been out for some time and in general, worked fairly well, although there are some real gotchas. For example, if you were to manipulate a Lab Manager system using Virtual Center, you’d serious screw your install up.

With Lab Manager 3, VMware adds High Availability (HA), Distributed Resource Scheduling (DRS) and other features that were previously ESX/Virtual Center-only features into the LM featureset. Also in the mix is much-improved LDAP/Active Directory support for workgroups, and also overall improvements for VMs such as allowing multiple NICs (how long have you wanted that?), official support for the mysterious SSmove command, and other goodies.

Grab the Lab Manager 3 release notes to see the official word on what’s going-on, and while you’re at it, don’t forget the upgrade guide — you don’t want to be calling VMware support with an emergency call because you destroyed your entire LM2.5 setup upgrading ;)
